Residents working together to legalize limited backyard chicken ownership in Winter Park, Florida, benefitting local food supplies, health and the environment.
Because of outdated laws and common misconceptions, owning chickens within city limits is currently illegal in Winter Park, Florida.
With the increasing public interest in healthy living and sourcing food locally, along with the growing awareness of the inhumane conditions facing birds raised on large chicken farms, concerned residents are taking the initiative to propose a change.
We plan to respectfully ask the City of Winter Park to follow in the footsteps of the over 500 other US cities and towns (including San Francisco, CA) that have recently legalized urban chicken ownership.
We are proposing that Winter Park update it's backyard chicken laws so that interested citizens may be at liberty to legally raise a small number of hens on their own property as pets and/or for egg production.
